Album “The Diary” 1994 Scarface was born Bradley Jordan on November 9, 1970. He is originally from the South Acres neighborhood of Houston, Texas. He was an early member of the Southern rap group The Geto Boys and still maintains ties with them, though he has been a solo artist since 1991. Even if he has never scored any national hits or stormed up the Billboard charts with any of his numerous albums throughout the ’90s, no one could question his clout throughout the South. He has managed to define what it meant to be a Southern thug rapper years before anyone even coined the term Dirty South. This became glaringly evident in the late ’90s when a massive wave of young MCs arose from Houston, New Orleans, and Memphis emulating his style of hard-boiled, ghetto-bred, straight-up hardcore rapping. Scarface (at the time recording under the alias of Akshen) began his rap career first as a solo artist in his native Houston during the mid-’80s for James Smith’s then fledging Rap-a-Lot label. Smith was trying to launch a group he tagged the Geto Boys, and he eventually asked Akshen to join the group in the late ’80s. Smith was trying to launch a group he tagged the Geto Boys, and he eventually asked Akshen to join the group in the late ’80s. The Geto Boys’ debut album — Grip It! On That Other Level (1990), later repackaged and re-released that same year simply as The Geto Boys — shocked many with its vivid depictions of violence and its overall extreme nature. This album

Organized Konfusion – Stress

By admin. Posted in Videos | No Comments »

Album “The Extinction Agenda” 1994 Group members Prince Po (poetry) and Pharoahe Monch began their career under the name Simply II Positive MCs in 1987. Originally, Po was the rapper and Pharoahe was a beatboxer, but after realizing his rhyming skill, Monch joined Po as MC. The duo caught the attention of prominent Hip Hop producer Paul C, who produced a demo for the group in the late 1980s. Paul was murdered in 1989, but the duo went on and signed a record deal with Hollywood BASIC. In 1991, the group released its critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, Organized Konfusion. The album was produced entirely by the duo, and featured only one guest appearance, provided by the group’s childhood friend, future DITC member OC, who appeared on the single “Fudge Pudge”. The album’s single, “Walk Into The Sun”, became a minor hit for the group, peaking at #15 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. The album itself didn’t manage to make any Billboard chart, despite high praise from numerous sources, including Allmusic, which granted the album a perfect 5 star rating, with reviewer Stanton Swihart stating that it is “arguably the underground hip-hop album of the 1990s.” The duo returned in 1994 with their second album Stress: The Extinction Agenda. This album was once more low on guests, featuring another appearance by OC, and A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip, who both appeared on the song “Let’s Organize”. The album’s lead single “Stress” charted on the Hot Rap Singles chart, but the most

Onyx – All We Got Iz Us

By admin. Posted in Videos | No Comments »

Album “All We Got Iz Us” 1995 Originally formed in Queens, NY in 1988, during 1990, the members of Onyx (Fredro Starr, Sticky Fingaz, Big DS, and DJ Suave Sonny Caeser) met while working as barbers. The band honed their rhyming skills and act by performing at local clubs, which eventually gained the attention of Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay, who signed the group to his label, JMJ Records, and released its first 12″ single, “Ah, and We Do it Like This”, in 1990, and even helped produce Onyx’s debut full-length, Bacdafucup, in 1993. The album turned out to be a platinum-certified smash, spurred on by the runaway success of the hit single “Slam,” which went on to become one of the year’s biggest rap hits. The group confirmed that they were just as content attracting a heavy metal audience by a pair of collaborations with the NYC hardcore metal outfit Biohazard (a remix of “Slam” credited to Bionyx, and the title track to the motion picture Judgment Night). The album even beat out such stiff competition as Dr. Dre’s rap classic The Chronic at the Soul Train Awards for Best Rap Album that year. But Onyx was unable to continue their commercial success as such subsequent albums as 1995′s All We Got Iz Us and 1998′s Shut ‘Em Down came and went without much fanfare. The late ’90s saw members Sticky and Fredro try their hand at acting, landing spots on HBO’s Strapped, Spike Lee’s Clockers, the Rhea Pearlman/Danny De Vito-directed Sunset Park, and Brandy’s hit TV show Moesha.
